"Guppy"
Type: Norwegian Sailing Pram, originally built in Sausalito, CA.

LOA: 11' 9"
Beam (width): 3' 6"
Weight: 100-120lbs
Capacity: 1 to 2 people.
Background: Long story short, this boat came into my possession because it was abandoned and needed serious repairs, or else the chopping block. If my sources are correct, this boat was built in a class taught by Simon Watts.

The plan: I am converting her from a sailboat to a dedicated rowing craft. 6 out of 9 planks need to be replaced. Using 1/2" light western red cedar. The daggerboard case is to be removed (but saved). Bead of 5200 caulking on seams for longevity. Painted bikini blue on topsides. Red anti-foul. Hattaras off-white interior, with varnished trim for details, including thwarts, knees, et cetera. Old oars will be refurbished and painted to match the boat. Mast step will be refinished. Boat will be fitted with one downwind sail. Small spinnaker with pocket will slot over an upright oar. Handle of one oar slips into mast step, the "mast" partner being a slot in the forward thwart and belaying pins to lash the oar to a second point of contact. The rower will steer with other oar from out of transom cutaway, which will be leathered.
